The Fifth Orchard Soursop Leaves
A Whole Leaf Deep Botanical Tradition
100% Pure Dried Soursop Leaves • Carefully Selected • Fresh on Branch or Air Dried
Ingredients: 100% Soursop Leaves (Annona muricata)
The Essence
Across the Caribbean, West Africa, Southeast Asia and parts of Central America, soursop leaves have been prepared for generations as one of the most respected botanical infusions in traditional practice. While the fruit is widely known for its flavour, the leaves have long been valued for their naturally occurring plant compounds and their steady, restorative character when prepared as tea.
Our dried soursop leaves provide a stable and concentrated form. Carefully air dried at source before getting hand sorted, packed and delivered. They retain the core structure and character of the leaf in a form that stores easily and brews consistently.
Practical Preparation & Usage
Wash leaves before use. For tea, use roughly 2–3 fresh leaves or 1–2 dried leaves per cup (250–300ml) of water. Cover with boiling water and steep for 10–15 minutes, or gently simmer for a stronger infusion. This can be consumed warm or chilled and kept refrigerated for up to 2–3 days. Larger batches are commonly prepared and stored for regular use. Beyond tea, the leaves are traditionally added to herbal baths or steam infusions, where a handful of fresh or dried leaves are simmered in water and added to bathwater for full-body soaking. Some also combine them with other botanicals or use them in concentrated decoctions for external use. Both fresh and dried leaves can be used interchangeably, adjusting quantity depending on strength preference.
Taste Profile
An earthy infusion with a rounded herbal depth and gentle natural bitterness typical of green leaves. When brewed properly the tea develops a mellow body and clean finish. Fresh leaves produce a greener, more aromatic cup with a brighter vegetal profile. Dried leaves create a deeper, fuller infusion with a more settled and rounded character.
Energetic Properties
Traditionally associated with grounding and restorative qualities rather than stimulation, soursop leaf tea is naturally caffeine free and steady in nature. Often prepared during periods of rest, recovery or inward focus, it carries a calm, stabilising presence that feels supportive rather than activating. Fresh leaves tend to feel lighter and more vibrant, while dried leaves carry a deeper, more anchoring quality due to the concentration that occurs through drying.
Plant Compounds & Nutritional Significance
Soursop leaves are valued globally for their naturally occurring plant defence compounds, most notably annonaceous acetogenins, alongside polyphenols and flavonoids. Acetogenins are unique bioactive compounds produced by the soursop tree as part of its natural protection system and are found in varying concentrations throughout the plant, with the leaves being one of the most studied sources. These compounds have been the focus of extensive botanical and laboratory research due to their interaction with cellular energy pathways and oxidative processes.
In addition to acetogenins, the leaves contain naturally occurring polyphenols associated with antioxidant activity, flavonoids that contribute to the tea’s depth and stability, and trace minerals and plant alkaloids typical of tropical botanical foods. This combination has made soursop leaf tea one of the most widely respected traditional botanical infusions across multiple continents, with continued global demand driven by long standing use rather than passing trend.
Traditional & Global Use
While the fruit is widely used for desserts and juices, the leaves have historically been prepared as a herbal infusion within traditional plant practices across the tropics. Prepared most commonly as a simple tea, the leaves form part of daily botanical routines in many regions where the tree grows naturally. Their continued use reflects accessibility, practicality and the respected position of the soursop tree within traditional food and plant systems. Today demand continues to grow globally as more people seek whole botanical preparations and naturally occurring plant compounds as part of a balanced diet and lifestyle.
Storage & Care
Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Leaves can retain quality for approximately two to three years. Leaf colour may vary from light to dark green or fully brown depending on maturity and drying stage. This variation is natural and does not affect suitability for use.
Origin & Integrity
Sourced from trusted growers across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, St Lucia, Uganda, Mauritius and Vietnam where soursop trees grow in warm, mineral rich environments. Leaves are harvested carefully in small quantities to maintain healthy fruit production and long term tree vitality. A deeply respected botanical presented with clarity, care and integrity.
